Band names that are hard to say or pronounce are a bit of a pet peeve of mine (anyone remember UP-C DOWN-C LEFT-C RIGHT-C ABC + START?) It just seems like bands with these sorts of names are intentionally trying to stifle word-of-mouth publicity or something. Still, any artist or band worth a damn can overcome this self-imposed handicap by, well, making great music.
Say it with me now – “Tonstartssbandht.” Easy, right? This overconsonanted word is the duo of Florida / New York siblings Andy and Edwin White, recent additions to the squad over at Mexican Summer. Their epic new track, “Sorcerer,” from their forthcoming album of the same name, is a sprawling nine-minute piece with hints of prog, freak folk, and classic krautrock. Check the track out below, and catch them on tour with Mac Demarco in May. I’m sure all of Mac’s fans will be wondering how to pronounce their name while they get their faces melted off.
