Moogfest returns later this month for its second year in Durham, North Carolina, and as always, it’s a gathering of some of music’s most creative minds. Daytime lectures, film screenings, technology workshops, art exhibits, and political rallies are all included along with music in the four day dedication to synth inventor Bob Moog.
Moogfest’s lineups are tasteful and diverse, combining dance music, ambient, IDM, experimental rock, and hip-hop. One of the festival’s biggest draws is its inclusion of towering music pioneers such as Brian Eno, Laurie Anderson, Morton Subotnick, and Amon Tobin. 2017 is no exception, presenting techno vanguards 808 State, Derrick May, and K-Hand, hip-hop veterans DJ Premier, Talib Kweli, and Peanut Butter Wolf, and ambient / new age innovators Laraaji and Suzanne Ciani. Michael Stipe of R.E.M. will present a mysterious new audio / visual project, and Canadian electronic group Syrinx will perform for the first time in decades.
The 2017 lineup is rounded out with an impressive list of new(er) names, like Flying Lotus and Animal Collective, who will lecture as well as perform, along with Jessy Lanza, The Haxan Cloak, Pharmakon, Wolf Eyes, Omar Souleyman, Avalon Emerson, Zola Jesus, King Britt, Elysia Crampton, and so many more.
Moogfest is less than two weeks away. Come join the think tank. Watch 13-year old Lia Scott’s impressive submission to Moogfest’s 2017 Circuit Bending Challenge below. Buy tickets HERE.
