While Richard D. James has explored many styles as Aphex Twin, many of us will always hold his Selected Ambient Works from the ’80s and early ’90s as personal favorites. James doesn’t seem terribly interested by such simplicity these days, but the far-reaching influence of his early work is set in stone.
We’ll have to settle for what we can get, and Benoît Pioulard’s cover of “Stone in Focus” is definitely an enticing offer. He muddies the still waters of Aphex’s somber classic, adding a gritty haze of noise over the original scene. Check out the cover and revisit the original below.
