I’ve been listening to Explosions in the Sky and Eluvium for a long time. Since high school, I’ve turned to their albums time and time again. In fact, Matthew Cooper’s Eluvium set opening for EITS was pretty much the first live music I ever saw. They’re all friends, and the music they make shares a warm, inviting energy that will always connect them in my mind. When Inventions, the duo of Cooper and Explosions’ Mark T. Smith, was announced, it made perfect sense, and fulfilled my desire for a more experimental, piano-heavy EITS, which was a direction they never went. I’m rambling, anyway Inventions has already delivered two great albums, and this blog just might be named after one of their tracks. The Blanket Waves EP is up next, consisting of two long tracks. You can check out an edit of “Hearing Loss” below, as well as a trailer for the EP. It’s out October 16 on Temporary Residence Ltd., pre-order below.
